Renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam and actress Manisha Koirala recently traveled to Bekal Fort in Kasaragod, Kerala, revisiting the iconic location where the memorable song “Uyire Uyire” from their acclaimed 1995 film Bombay was shot. Their visit, along with cinematographer Rajiv Menon, was part of celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the film and coincided with the Bekal International Beach Festival.
At the seaside historic fort, the trio reminisced about the original shoot and shared stories from the making of the song, which remains etched in audiences’ minds for its picturesque setting against the Arabian Sea. Ratnam recalled the challenges and beauty of filming there, while Manisha fondly remembered the experience and the lasting impact of Bombay.
